District 28. America is black

All of the artifacts are designed, stitched, and made by members of the community who are interested in being in the fashion industry. Through the making of artifacts, this exhibition gives the opportunity to implement fashion as education but also questioning what constitutes a fashion label and collection.

Traditionally, artifacts are deemed as something historical or culturally significant, often rare in nature America is Black goes against the physical nature of what an artifact is an creates an internal fashion system developed to design collections that will be used as artifacts for the museum. Artifacts that aren’t donated from personal collections are often taken from countries/cultures and kept inaccessible from those people.
